Christmas Holiday

At the start of January we went down to our Cousins Bach in Okiwi Bay.
We were there with our Cousins and Grandparents.

On the second day we were there we did a boys trip.

We went out in their boat and set the long line out by the mussel buoys
I had to unwind it off the reel and connect on the line with the hooks on it.
We left it there and we were going to come back to it two hours later.

James drove the boat to behind some islands where there was a work up.
Me and Jaxon put our lines in while the boat moving to see if we could catch anything.
Jaxon had a diver on the end of his line which goes down deep to try and catch a Kingfish.
I had a popper on my line it pops in the waves. We did a few laps of the area but we caught
nothing. We moved on.

At the next spot we dropped our lines with some hooks and bait on them
but we only were catching small blue cod except one that we could catch
we moved on but with still no success.
After an hour we drove on to another work up we dropped a diver and a lure
and started trawling on the second lap we both shouted “fish on!” Jaxons
fish ran down deep quickly it was probably a keepable Kingfish but we never found out because it broke the line, it would have been there fist
keepable kingfish. I had hooked on a kahwai,I managed to pull it in we
kept it.  After two more trawles and two more kahwai from me we
decided that we would go back to trying for kingfish. We had no luck catching any.

James drove the boat back to the long line when we pulled it up
all that we found was a starfish and no bait. The crabs must have had a feast.

As we were driving back we spotted a pod of dolphins and babies.
We drove over them and they happily played around the boat until Jaxon got in with them.
They probably didn’t want us hurting their younglings.
Usually Jaxon  would be able to swim with them. No chance this time.

As we were driving back up we saw some people who had been out deep
who had a massive kingfish. They were happy with that prize.

When we got back we filleted the fish and smoked all the kahawi and frooze
two of the ones we smoked the other we ate on crackers. We had a good day.
